On the Road Again with Pen & Keyboard, A Guthrie Scottish Rite Building Tour

Another exciting adventure for our Pen and Keyboard writers occurred on 21 Jun 2025.  Jim Martin had arranged for a tour of the Masonic Temple in Guthrie.  This temple is one of the world’s largest Masonic Centers, and it is a beautiful, historic wonder.  In fact, this temple is on the US National Register of Historic Places.  Jim greeted us in his full Masonic uniform which in itself was very impressive.

David Tennison, our tour guide, led us through this monumental building with data and expertise that shows his extensive knowledge of the building, and the organization.

The Temple has deep spiritual roots, and Jim, a long-time member, was heard to remark that with every visit, he makes new discoveries hidden in the architecture, art, textiles, and craftsmanship. Jim, in the Blue Room, surprised the group with his information about the origins of “Celebrating the Seasons”, the first Pen and Keyboard anthology.  The Blue Room contains three beautiful stain-glass windows reflecting the evolution of a man through life; each “step” in life brings a higher, more enlightened, view; hence the book title was born!

With David at the helm, we explored this massive building in good time, and right on schedule.  From there, we progressed to Stables Restaurant, a Guthrie favorite, and had a great time in fellowship, and down-home food.

I think we all came away with inspiration for our next writing projects!  Thanks, Jim and David!
